THE MEMORIAL GARDEN
Adrian is delighted that Cardiff Council have identified land at Thornhill Crematorium for a dedicated Memorial Garden for pets and their owners. Located within the grounds of the crematorium, the garden will provide a peaceful and thoughtfully designed space for people grieving the loss of much loved pets.
As part of the Lord Mayor’s nominated charities for the year, representatives from Forget Me Not Hub and Cardiff Dogs Home, The Rescue Hotel have been invited to attend the opening event in a community capacity. The Lord Mayor would like to thank the Head of Bereavement Services for his guidance and support in helping bring the project forward.
Councillor Norma Mackie, Cabinet Member for Waste, Street Scene and Environmental Services added:
“This memorial garden is an important project for the Council which recognises the strong bond between people and their pets. The loss of a pet can leave a deep and lasting sense of grief. This memorial garden will offer a quiet, beautiful space where people can remember and find comfort.”
Councillor Adrian Robson, The Lord Mayor said:
“Many people form deep and meaningful bonds with their pets, and their loss can be profoundly felt. This memorial garden will offer a quiet space where people can sit and remember their pets. I am incredibly grateful to Cardiff Council, Councillor Norma Mackie, our partners and early supporters for helping us take the first steps towards creating a place that will mean so much to so many.”
The Lord Mayor is now appealing to businesses and individuals to support the project through donations. All contributions raised through this appeal will go directly towards developing the memorial garden and will not form part of the individual charities’ general funds, ensuring it becomes a welcoming and beautifully cared for space for all.
There are also memorial benches available for purchase. Please contact Jayne on 07970 013332 or adrian@lordmayorofcardiff.co.uk for further details.
